Natalie Kerris, Twitter’s vice president of Global Communications, has left the tech firm after less than six months on the job.
A Twitter spokeswoman confirmed the departure on Monday evening, noting that it takes effect immediately. Twitter Chief Marketing Officer Leslie Berland will lead both marketing and communications.
Kerris first announced she was joining Twitter on Feb. 22. She worked at Apple for 14 years as the company’s senior director of worldwide corporate communications.
Twitter has faced criticism in the past for failing to tell its own story, making Kerris’ hire an important one. She took over for Gabriel Stricker, who stepped down from his role last summer.
While the company recently rolled out a new marketing campaign to show it’s a place “where you go to see what’s happening everywhere in the world right now,” it has also struggled to meet Wall Street’s expectations.
Last week, Twitter’s stock dropped more than 11 percent after reporting second-quarter sales and a weaker forecast for the third quarter that missed analysts’ estimates. Meanwhile, the company has grappled with online abuse on its site, an issue that attracted more media attention after comedian and actress Leslie Jones voiced her concerns on Twitter.
Kerris’ departure was reported earlier by BuzzFeed. Kerris hasn’t publicly commented on where she is headed next. As of Monday evening, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey hasn’t tweeted out a comment about Kerris’ departure either.
